What we measure
How it works
1 • Complete your health profile
After purchasing your Biological Age Health Panel, you will be instructed to complete your health profile.
2 • Visit a lab near you
Once your health profile is complete, you will be prompted to find a lab near you and schedule a blood draw. Because most tests require you to fast for 12 hours before the draw, be sure you schedule the blood test for the morning. Be sure to bring your lab requisition form with you and arrive hydrated.
3 • Receive age score and insights
Your biomarkers will be analyzed using machine learning to create the most in-depth and accurate picture of your health and biological age. The improvement plan includes diet, exercise, lifestyle and supplement recommendations by one of our health coach professionals.

Why is Biological Age important?
Biological Age Health Panel can explain why individuals of the same age have profound differences in capabilities ‐ why some run marathons and scale mountains, while others are riddled with adverse health conditions and require around-the-clock care. Biological age is not chronological age ‐ which is your age based on when you were born ‐ rather, biological age is how old your body behaves physiologically.
Normal environmental damage, undesirable dietary habits, lack of proper exercise, untreated physical or mental health issues, and even social stimulation can all affect the “age” of your cells. Your biological age can be altered by how much “damage” your body accumulates over time.
Although your body might not “feel old” in your thirties or forties, simple everyday behaviors can affect you internally in ways that will alter your health span as you age.
Thorne’s Biological Age Health Panel uses blood biomarkers and a research-validated algorithm predicated on hundreds of thousands of biomarkers to provide vital scores that estimate a person’s biological, liver, kidney, lipid, metabolic, and blood ages.
As you age, your risk increases for almost every prevalent disease. Research indicates that biological age is a better predictor of disease risk than chronological age. Biological age is also highly associated with all-cause mortality and risk for numerous adverse health conditions like diabetes, cancer, dementia, and organ-specific damage.
Therefore, reversing or slowing your biological age clock can have a truly beneficial impact on your health and longevity. Thorne’s Biological Age test is designed to help you do that.
How your Biological Age Health Panel Score can transform the way you age
Thorne’s Biological Age Health Panel Score is derived from the observations of thousands of men and women. Just as men and women have different expected lifespans and different health concerns, Biological Age Health Panel uses different models to predict the biological age for each sex.
Your Age Score combines factors of metabolic, immunologic, hematologic, hormonal, and organ health into a single score that represents a holistic picture of your wellness. In addition, age scores are calculated for five key systems:
Blood, Metabolic, Lipid, Kidney, and Liver, which allows you to focus on improving the system or organ most relevant to your health. Each system contains actionable possibilities that will, in turn, alter your Biological Age Score. When you discover how your lifestyle has been affecting you, you can transform the way you age with the knowledge from your Biological Age Test.
Biological Age
Lifestyle, diet, and the environment have substantial effects on your body. Biological Age ‐ the age your body acts like ‐ is a better predictor of physical wellness than chronological age.
Blood Age
Your Blood Age reflects the internal age of your blood and your ability to maintain healthy red and white blood cells. Optimal Blood Age is important for maintaining energy, normal immune function, and optimal circulation.
Lipid Age
Healthy levels of lipids are essential for maintaining your cardiovascular health, as well as maintaining healthy hormone and nutrient levels in your body.
Liver Age
The liver is the organ where most systemic detoxification occurs. Your Liver Age Score is representative of the stress the liver has been through over the years due to factors such as alcohol consumption, eating fatty foods, contacting environmental toxins, and lack of exercise.
Kidney Age
The kidneys maintain healthy urination, regulate blood pressure, reduce swelling, and cleanse the body of unwanted toxins. Kidney health is critical to balancing hydration, minerals, maintaining healthy blood sugar, and maintaining homeostasis.
Metabolic Age
Metabolic Age impacts your cardiometabolic health, energy metabolism, and nutrient storage capability. A healthy metabolism regulates blood sugar levels, promotes healthy lipid profiles, and manages inflammation, blood pressure, and weight gain.
The Science
Thorne’s Biological Age is the innovation of world-renowned, award-winning scientists Dr. Leroy Hood and Dr. Nathan Price in collaboration with Thorne’s CEO Paul Jacobson and CSO Dr. Bodi Zhang. Dr. Hood is the inventor of groundbreaking scientific instruments, including DNA and protein sequencers, significantly advancing the Human Genome Project and treatment opportunities for HIV.
He is one of only 15 scientists to be elected to all three national academies ‐ the National Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Engineering, and the National Academy of Medicine. He has received 17 honorary degrees, including the distinguished National Medal of Science from President Obama in 2011.
Dr. Price is the former co-director of the Hood-Price Integrated Lab for Systems Biomedicine at the Institute of Systems Biology in Seattle and is now co-CEO of Onegevity Health Intelligence. Both have been selected for numerous prestigious awards for their work in pioneering “scientific wellness” and together, they have numerous publications in this field.
