Phytoprofen® Details
Phytoprofen can minimize post-operative or post-injury bruising and swelling, in addition to helping prevent connective tissue breakdown. It contains a blend of Ayurvedic herbs – ginger, Boswellia, and curcumin – which together support a healthy cytokine balance in the body.
Phytoprofen also contains bromelain, a protein-digesting enzyme complex derived from pineapple that studies have shown will reduce bruising after injury. Supplementation with bromelain following a blunt injury to the musculoskeletal system can reduce swelling and tenderness. This product can be used to promote healing after injury or surgery.
Warnings
Allergy Warning
This product is contraindicated in an individual with a history of hypersensitivity to any of its ingredients.
Pregnancy
If pregnant, consult your health professional before using this product.
Interactions
Because bromelain has fibrinolytic effects, potentially inhibiting blood clotting, Phytoprofen should be used with caution or avoided in individuals on anticoagulant therapy.
Curcumin has been shown to reduce the therapeutic efficacy of cyclophosphamide (Cytoxan) in animal studies. In vitro research reveals curcumin decreased camptothecin-induced death of cultured breast cancer cells. Curcumin might also interfere with the absorption and efficacy of the chemotherapy drug irinotecan, used to treat colon cancer.
The concurrent use of curcumin with these agents should be avoided.
Additional Warnings
It is not recommended to remove the Phytoprofen powder from the capsule to take orally, as it can be irritating to the oral mucosa.
